White Like Me
White Like Me explores race and racism in the U.S. through the lens of whiteness and white privilege, based on the work of anti-racist educator and author Tim Wise. Wise offers a fascinating look back at the race-based white entitlement programs that built the American middle class and argues that the failure of our society to accept this legacy of white privilege continues to perpetuate racial inequality and race-driven political resentment today.
The purpose of the documentary, is it is a personal account examining white privilege and his conception of racism in American society through his experiences with his family and in his community. After watching the documentary, I was shocked to see that people got treated like that. And the benefits the white had. the benefits of white privilege include material benefits like better job opportunities, better housing access, and better education opportunities. There is also the psychological benefit of just the realization that as a white person, one is not going to be racially profiled when going about their everyday business. We are all a human being not matter what race or religion or ethic we are. We are all born the same. Because of affirmative action and reverse discrimination, if two people were identical in the application process, they will choose the black person to increase diversity.
